Guidelines for authors

The International Journal for Educational and Vocational Guidance publishes articles in relation to work and leisure, career development, career counselling and guidance and career education, which have preferably either an international content (e.g. comparative studies, multi- or cross-cultural perspectives, regional surveys, etc.) or contribute to topics of broad international interest (e.g. theoretical developments, ethical issues, etc.). Important national developments which are of wider interest can be included. All articles should present implications for practice.

Articles must be original and written in one of the official languages used in IAEVG: French, English or German. If the manuscript overlaps with material which the author is submitting elsewhere, this should be made clear when the article is submitted. Main articles should be about 4000 to 6000 words, with an abstract of 60 to 100 words. The main articles will be classified in subcategories as: effective techniques (description and assessment of theoretically-based techniques), comparative studies, theoretical studies, new directions and trends in the field, models of practice, etc. Debates are between 750 and 1500 words and comprise a response to articles which have appeared in previous issues of the journal.

Manuscripts should be submitted in four copies to: Raoul Van Esbroeck, Coördinator Onderwijsbegeleiding, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Pleinlaan 2, 1050 Brussels, Belgium (fax: + 32 02 629 22 20, e-mail: Adres poczty elektronicznej jest chroniony przed robotami spamującymi. W przeglądarce musi być włączona obsługa JavaScript, żeby go zobaczyć. ) To enable an anonymous refereeing procedure, the name(s) and institution(s) of the author(s) should appear on a separate cover page and not be included on the manuscript itself.

Style: A logical organisation is essential. Short headings and (where appropriate) subheadings should be used to structure the article. The ideas should flow coherently and be written in a clear, concise and straight-forward style. Technical jargon and acronyms should be avoided. Authors are encouraged to avoid sexist language and to reduce bias on basis of gender, sexual orientation, social or racial or ethnic group, disability or age. References in the text and reference list should follow the APA guidelines. Only items cited in the manuscript should be listed in the reference list. Footnotes are strongly discouraged, except for an introductory footnote, with statements of affiliation, credit and research support.

Tables and illustrations should be self-explanatory and used sparingly. Authors are requested not to submit more than three tables or two figures. They should be referred to as figures and tables and be numbered consecutively in the text in Arabic numerals (e.g. Table 1, Fig. 1).

Copyrights: Authors of accepted manuscripts must obtain the necessary permission to use any material already protected by copyright. The copyright of material published in the journal will be held by the International Association for Educational and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG).

Publication of accepted manuscripts: Authors of accepted manuscripts will be asked to provide the edited and final version of their text on a 3.5 floppy diskette. The software in which the manuscript is written should be preferably in MS Word 5.0 or later version (WordPerfect 5.0 or later version may be an alternative). The tables and illustrations should be in a separate file. Their approximate position in the text should be indicated. The software used for the text and the illustrations/tables should be indicated in a separate message. The final version can also be mailed in attachment through the internet to the following address: Adres poczty elektronicznej jest chroniony przed robotami spamującymi. W przeglądarce musi być włączona obsługa JavaScript, żeby go zobaczyć. . Proofs will be sent whenever possible, but will be supplied for checking and for essential corrections only, not for revisions or alterations. Proofs should be corrected and returned to the editor within three days of receipt.

Offprints: All authors will receive five complimentary copies of the journal.
